Local History
Local heart volunteers have been actively raising money for several decades to go towards the heart association, but only held their first organized meeting in September.
Yancey says the unit had its beginnings in a suggestion from then-field consultant Ken Pillar at the Shenandoah Chapter. Pillar spoke with Yancey and Cloud and Yancey says those talks went on for almost a year. Then volunteers set up some public meetings last summer to measure community interest.
Finally the newly formed unit met in July to elect its 21 member board which includes officers: president Steve Seoggin, vice president Lillian Aylor, treasurer Frances Foster, and secretary Nina Beck.
The board plans to meet four times a year, Seoggin says, with the next meeting set for January 18.
