For safety’s sake, everyone should know how to check bicycles. Here is a list used by 4-H’er^ to do a safety check. It comes from Bernard L. Parsons, Virginia Tech Extension agricultural engineer.
1. ) Stand beside the bike and hold the handlebars as though riding. If the handlebars turn up and down, they need adjustment.
2. ) Lift the weight from the front end to see if the cones in the front end of the frame are in proper adjustment.
2.) Hold the front wheel with one hand and the handlebar with the other. See if the handlebar post will twist out of position. If it will, it needs adjustment.
4.) Steady the bike with one hand. With the other, grasp the tire or rim near the front fork. Do the wheelv.
