athers from opposite ends of the county received opposite answers from the Rappahannock school board at its September 13 meeting.
Vernon Scott of Castleton and Peter Jenkins of Flint Hill wanted school buses to stop at their homes to pick up children. Assistant superintendent Tom Campbell had recommended denial of both requests based on current policy, but the board approved Jenkins’ request, at least temporarily, for safety reasons.
Jenkins feared for his five year old who has to walk through the woods to meet the bus. He was concerned about the possibility of the child running into wild animals.
The board agreed that while the distance wasn’t great, the danger was sufficient enough for a small child that the bus should pick him up—at least while he is in kindergarten and first grade.
