through all of the projects that 4-H members learn is career education," said Dawson. “In all the projects they learn how an individual might make a living with skills like these, how these skills fit into another career field, or how these skills enhance the lifestyle.”
As part of Cooperative Extension, the 4-H program gets its support and educational materials from the specialists at the land-grant universities Virginia Tech and Virginia State. However, the driving force of the program is the local volunteer leader.
Most clubs are led by volunteers who share their time and talents to help the youngsters learn by doing. There were more than 10,400 adult and teenage leaders working with 4-H members in 1982.
