VDACS figures showed soybeans selling around $9 bushel in late September with the crop in poor condition and the bulk of the harvest season still several weeks away. Both yields and test weights were down from last year.
The most recent VDACS report estimated Virginia farmers would harvest some 610,000 acres of soybeans this fall, an estimate likely to be on the high side since some acreage will not be harvested at all. Yields as of September 1 were projected at 17 bushels per acre, a figure not expected to change in the next report.
