GOVERNING THE DEFINITION OF
THE NETWORK TERMINATION INTERFACE
The Virginia State Corporation Commission ("Com minion") proposes adopting rules governing the point separating telephone company-provided facilities and Customer Premises Wiring (CPW). The Commission pro poses that a telephone company-provided demarcation device or network termination interface serve as the demarcation point between Customer Premises Wiring ("CPW") and telephone company facilities. The demarca tion device would employ the industry's standard mod ular jack and plug, which permits the disconnection of all CPW from the telephone company network by simply removing the plug from the jack.
The Commission has proposed these rules as a result of various actions taken by the Federal Communications Commission concerning expensing station connections and detariffing customer premises equipment. Moreover, from time to time various telephone customers have sought to be able to install their own telephone wiring within their premises, and certain telephone companies have filed tariffs
