Goat Club

In just two years the Rappahannock 4-H members have produced a better breed of goat and created tougher competition for themselves.

That’s the best result Joyce Adams of Flint Hill says she’s seen in her years of working with the goat club.

From the start, the Rappahannock participants did well at the farm show in Culpeper, Adams says, but as they learned how to breed better animals by selecting stronger sires, they pushed themselves into tougher competition classes. * Adams added that the children have grown in finesse and confidence as well. They were all novice showers the first year she coached them and now they’re all fairly knowledgeable about both animal husbandry and showmanship.
