Toni and Randall Updike of Washington have worked with the livestock club since it started about five years ago.
Probably the most active club, the livestock group has approximately 15 members and meets about once a month. Last weekend they ran the concession stand at the calf sale at Tom Massie’s, selling a lunch of hot dogs and soft drinks.
They also plan to sell lunches during the House Tour on October 15-16.
Regular activities include home demonstrations on sheep and hog care. Toni Updike says the club held a stock ring contest last year and demonstrated types of feed. They have also held displays of the types of tools veterinarians use while working on farm animals.
She says she got involved in 4-H work because it was an interest of her husband’s. “Randall always worked with it,” she says, “and it’s something we want for our kids when they get
