The program led by volunteers and coordinated by Extension staff members has many exciting features leading to the top event at the Virginia State Fair. More than 250 youngsters compete in the horse show held over a four-day period in Richmond.
The youth in the program also use their skills to help others. Some Virginia groups conduct programs to help the handicapped enjoy riding and learn about horses and ponies.
"With the background of such a program,” said Huff, “the youngsters increase their knowledge of safety precautions to prevent injury and enjoy participating in one of the state’s most popular recreation forms.”
