Local Funds
Now that the local unit is organized, more of the money raised in Rappahannock will return in the form of special materials published by the American Heart Association. Scoggins says the unit will request funding for its activities and the state chapter will make allocations. It’s possible for a unit to get more money back than it raises, he explained.
Scoggins pointed out that the association is heavily research oriented. Onethird of all money raised goes for research into ways of combatting heart disease.
Contributions are not just welcome in February during heart month, Scoggins says. The “Time to Remember” program offers people the opportunity to donate in memory of loved ones, to celebrate special occasions and as get well gifts.
