• Mr. McCarthy reported that the County historic survey is “substantially” complete, and that a draft report is expected by early October, and final results are due in January of 2003.
• Mr. McCarthy reported on the Virginia Department of Transportation’s new Rural Rustic Road Program. He told the Board that this program creates the separate designation of Rural Rustic Road and allows for an adjustment .of standards so that a secondary road so designated can be maintained under relaxed standards to preserve its rustic nature. He asked that Board members consider designating certain roads Rural Rustic at the 6 Year Road Plan hearing in October or November.
• Mr. McCarthy informed the Board that Planning District 9 was awarded a grant for job training “for those displaced due to Sept. 11.” More information is available from “Workplace” at 349-9103.
• At the evening session, the Board unanimously affirmed the recommendation of the Planning Commission for a Special Exception for the adaptive reuse of Foster’s Packing Shed as a woodworking shop.
