The Rappahannock National Bank was locally owned and operated until July 1998 when it became part of Union Bankshares, a community bank holding company in Bowling Green, Va. It still is locally managed. Two employees with the longest time there are Pat Grigsby who came there in 1989, and Georgia Gilpin; who has been there since 1990.
The bank serves the majority of commercial business in the county and most of the loans to individuals are for residential real estate. Lending has increased over 85 percent over a three year period with the most of the growth being local loans, says Mr. Leake, who came to the bank in 1999.
