Jazz guitarists Gene Bertoncini and Frank Vignola will travel from New York to open the new season at the Theatre at Washington on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. with another in the highly popular jazz concerts at that venue. In this upcoming concert they will be joined, in a special guest appearance, by the gifted flamenco and classical guitarist Marija Temo.
Gene Bertoncini has firmly established himself as one of the most eloquent and versatile masters of the guitar. With elegance and ease, he bridges the jazz, classical, pop, and bossa nova styles, integrating his own spontaneous improvisations along the way.
He has worked with the Metropolitan Opera orchestra, the Benny Goodman Sextet; singers Tony Bennet, Lena Horne, Vic Damone and Edye Gorme, to mention just a few. His teaching credits include the Eastman School of Music, the New England Conservatory, and the Banff School of Fine Arts.
