But the “forgotten war” or Korean War w as looming and in the summer of 1950 North Korea invaded South Korea. American troops were sent in to meet the invading North Korean forces. The war lasted until 1953, followed by the beginning of the Cold War between the U. S. and its allies against communist nations, notably USSR.
