The premier exhibition of internationally renowned artist Robin B. Purnell’s new landscape paintings will be held in Long View Gallery in Sperryville. The show will run from Sept. 19 through Oct. 9 and there will be a reception in the gallery for Ms. Purnell on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. Everyone is invited.
Ms. Purnell is renowned for portraits that are lyrical expressions of individuals in their historical and geographical contexts, combining realism and near surrealism with an impressive technical mastery. Ms. Purnell has traveled widely in Europe and Asia and her paintings reflect the people and culture of the countries where she has lived.
When not traveling, Ms. Purnell lives and works in Washington, Va. Recently she spent six months immersed in an exploration of the landscape genre, turning to the lovely rolling hills of the Blue Ridge to satisfy her tremendous urge to paint the land where we live. This exhibition is the result of that exploration.
Ms. Purnell’s inspiration for these landscape paintings came after a very demanding portrait commission. “One morning in the late winter I was driving down Route 231 to Madison.
