opened its doors because it wasn’t until five months later, on March 19, 1903, that the bank bought the property where it stands now on Gay Street, according to court records.
The bank property was purchased from C. J. Rixey and his wife, Lizzie for $500. The Deed states that there was a branch of Farmers & Merchants Bank, owned by Mr. Rixey on the parcel that the bank bought. Perhaps, the bank leased the property first when it opened the bank and then bought it.
