In 1902, there were 47 national banks and 89 state banks operating in Virginia. Tbday only 16 of those banks are still in business. “We are proud to be one of the 16 and the second oldest national chartered bank in Virginia,” Mr. Leake said.
With only seven employees even today, which is five more than when it started in 1902, and assets of $32,175,014, the bank now has 2,500 customers. Its oldest customer is the County of Rappahannock .
