Later, owner and operator, W. M. Stuart, moved to the building called the Washington Cash Store where he operated a store in the front of the building and the bank in the back. Tbday that building is the Rappahannock Health Department on the comer of Main Street and Harris Hollow Road. No one is sure when the Stuart Bank started, it somehow evolved. Some local history buffs think it operated from 1900 until 1935.
The Stuart Bank passed out rulers with an inscription which read: “Your education is ndt complete until you have learned to save ”
In the old days at Rappahannock National Bank, a customer could open a savings account with $10. There was no minimum for a checking account, according to Mary Payne.
World War I
