Corbin got the extra points and the Panthers were down 20 to 16 with 2:25 left in the third quarter. Less then a minute later Anthony Clinedinst recovered a Madison fumble. Clinedinst played a terrific game and led the Panther defense at Madison with 8 unassisted tackles.
With six minutes left in the game Compton ran off tackle again for a three-yard touchdown that put the Panthers in front by the score of 22 to 20. Just when it appeared we might win our first game, Corbin fumbled and Madison recovered with 3:50 remaining.
Two plays later, defensive end Robbie Swan, deflected a Madison lateral and recovered the miscue at the Madison one-yard line. Compton took the hand-off from Corbin on the next play and scored his third touchdown of the night. Two minutes later the Panthers went wild celebrating a 30 to 20 opening game victory.
