The region’s Piedmont United Way fall campaign is currently underway. The overall goal this year is to raise $500,000, with Rappahannock targeted to raise $4,000 of that.
The Piedmont United Way covers Culpeper, Fauquier, Rappahannock, Orange and Madison Counties. The campaign ends on Thanksgiving.
Helen Williams, Board member from Castleton said “For 14 years residents have dug deep to support this local chapter of the United Way. I want to emphasize that this is a local United Way, find all monies raised here stay in our own community.”
Agencies currently funded by the Piedmont United Way include:
• Healthy Families of Rappahannock County
• Shenandoah Area Council, Boy Scouts of America
• Girl Scouts of Virginia Skyline Council
• Rapidan Better Housing Corporation
• Rappahannock Legal Services
• SAFE (Services for Abused Families).
E. Franklin Warner, new Board member for the Piedmont United Way, said, “we hope the weak economy does not hurt the donations this year. Sept. 11 charitable contributions moved monies away from the local area. There are still more people who need help right here in our community. The Piedmont United Way emphasis is on children and youth organizations serving in this region. I used to volunteer for the Community Chest back in the fifties and nm happy to continue public service through the United Way campaign here in
