Superintendent's
report
Interim Superintendent Helen Williams reported that the greenhouse is nearly complete, and that a celebration to honor benefactors" has been scheduled for Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. She added that plant stores and nurseries have been donating supplies for the greenhouse, and that plans are afoot to invite local garden clubs, horticulturists. nursery owners and others to add to the resources when greenhouse-related programs are being developed.
Mrs. Williams informed the Board about her presentation of the Rickmond Engineering study for athletic and recreational facilities to the Board of Supervisors for their review, and she said that she would return to the Supervisors in a few months to follow up. She provided enrollment figures for the first ten days of school which showed a total of 1040 students on day ten 'Sept. 9).
Other activities
• Chairman Mills reported on closed session activities and the Board approved the resignation of Roy Pullen and the hiring of: Robert Pullen as RCES custodian; Karyl Bailey, Sherry Pulsinelli, Sandra Anderson, Jacqueline Dawson, Sandra Niebert. and Ashleigh Cannon as substitutes'. Brenda Bennett as cafeteria substitute: and of Gretchen Long as library aide.
• Assistant Superintendent Jack Raines reported that Oasis CD Manufacturing has donated 49 items of office furniture and computers, and the Board accepted the donations with gratitude.
• Headwaters representative Rosa Crocker reported that Headwaters is preparing for this weekend's Taste of Rappahannock. She also noted that the organization is planning an International Festival for April or May of 2003. The final report on the Local Composite Index study will be completed later this week, she reported, but no plans have yet been developed for its dissemination. Ms. Crocker also said that the Grant Writer position is still being advertised, and that the new student representative to Headwaters is Tbny Starks
