However, the second quarter saw Madison take charge of the game and score twice. The inexperienced secondary from the blue and gold was unable to bring down Madison running backs once they broke through the line and got by the linebackers. There was some poor tackling on the Rapp side and we paid. The Madison running backs ran around or over our secondary.
At the half the Mountaineers led 20 to 8 and the Rapp fans were wondering how bad it might get before it ended. But the second half saw the Panthers emerge as an offensive and defensive powerhouse.
The third quarter started badly for the Panthers when freshman Howie Clark was unable to get off a punt from deep in our own territory, Madison took over inside the Panther 10-yard line. The situation was starting to look bleak.
But a penalty and some stiff Panther defense pushed the Mountaineers back to the 15-yard line where Rapp took over. Coach Pullin was sending in the plays and the Panther offense executed them perfectly. They
