Running on a campaign of fiscal conservatism and social responsibility, and on a core platform of more rail equals less traffic, is Independent Green candidate Gail Parker, the third-party challenger in Virginia’s race for senate.
Sen. George Allen currently holds the seat; various polls the past week have rated him in tight battle with Democrat Party candidate James Webb. Parker, lesser known and least funded, nonetheless sees potential to emerge from this November’s election the winner - and in so doing, open the doors for future minor party challengers to engage in open and democratic debate.
“I can’t compete financially,” Parker admitted. “But I’ve been very, very encouraged by the amount of coverage (from media) ... I’m on the ballot, on the Web site.”
Lacking, however, is the steady opportunity to go headto-head with Allen and Webb via organized debates and public speaking engagements.
