This Saturday afternoon, prepare for one of the key games of the Rappahannock Football season as the Rappahannock Panthers varsity team face off against the Freedom Eagles.
This is the first time the team will play on their reconstructed football field, which has been hailed has a superb achievement for Rappahannock County Schools.
“The field is looking fabulous, and we are ready to play a good game on it.” said Athletic Director J. D. Almond.
The team spent Tuesday afternoon watching football tapes and practiced executing plays for Saturday’s game, ironing out mistakes that were made during last week’s game against Page County. The Panthers lost that game 14-32.
“Our offense came back from the game against Luray,” said Pullen. “We completed passes, and gained plenty of yardage.”
The Panthers gained 266 yards of offense during the game. Bobby Czekaj played an excellent game, with 164 receiving years and 52 rushing yards.
The problem, said Pullen, was the minimal mistakes made during the game as the team mishandled the ball. “We had two fumbles on our side, and an interception,” said Pullen. “These types of mistakes cost us a lot of points.”
Quarterback Jonathan Butler had a 53 percent passing completions, although he admits he should have done better. “I threw an interception at the seven yard line,” Butler admitted humbly. “That was really demoralizing for the entire team, and I can’t
