In one of those curious turns of historical events, the Seward Purchase of 1867 found the U.S. buying back the land of the eroding pipelines that once was the claim of the Old Dominion.
All in the past, but just think what might have been. A roll of the dice here, a whispered word in some Privy Council there, and one might evei) now be able to take a trip to Malibu Beach and never even leave Rappahannock County.
Now, wouldn’t that have been a nifty slice of land preservation?
