“Silly things like this need to be stopped,” said RCPS teacher Joe Vickers, after recalling one of the lighting situations of the school. “The question we have to ask ourselves is how do we become “light Nazis.”
RCPS teacher Beth Gall said that the biggest challenge for the school was education on energy use. “We have to educate our leaders on how to save energy,” she said. “All of these things have never crossed our minds ... we need a list that will inform teachers and get kids involved.”
Following the presentation, the school board congratulated the team for their efforts. “I know that you gave up your vacation time over the summer to complete this audit,” said School Board Chairman Wesley Mills. “The labor now falls on our part to implement these recommendations.”
The school board voted to implement some of the no-cost items proposed by the team, and voted to implement other aspects in the filture. “That’s a major hunk of money that we can save,” said Mills. “I applaud the STEM team for what they have done.”

The School Board also voted on the new press box / concession stand structure proposed by the RCSSA. After reviewing the plans, they voted to move forward with the project.
The plans detail a two-story, 12-foot by 20-foot cinder block structure, in which the concession stand will be housed in the lower level and the press box will be installed in the upper level.
