Luis Garcia picked up his first riding title at Colonial Downs. Garcia won 42 races from 205 starts and his mounts earned $641,515. Finishing second with 40 wins was Horacio Karamanos, the leading rider for 2002 and 2005. Ryan Fogelsonger, the 2003 and 2004 champ, finished third with 37 wins. Jonathan Joyce was fourth with 31 winners and Kyle Kaenel rounded out the top five with 28 wins. Anna Napravnik and Kerry Bryan tied for leading apprentice honors with 11 wins apiece.
Hamilton Smith picked up his fourth training title at Colonial with 20 winners. (He was the leading trainer here in 1998, 2002 and 2003.) Smith prevailed in a tight race over Ferris Allen, III and Phil Schoenthal. Allen finished with 19 wins to buttress his all-time leading total. Schoenthal, the leading trainer here in 2004, finished third with 18 wins. Ann Merryman was fourth with 16 winners. Speedy Smith wick finished fifth with 12 wins from just 31 starts.
David Ross was the leading owner for the second straight year. Ross won 23 races, more than the rest of the top five owners combined. He has 15 winners in 2005.
