about which I had no prior knowledge or experience, taught me so many important lessons. Lessons that were part of Mom’s legacy, and lessons that I hope always to remember and share, especially with my son and other young people embarking upon a career:
• We can have an obligation to ourselves at the same time that we have a responsibility to others.
• Those who have more - abilities, opportunities, financial success - have the responsibility to share their gifts with others.
• Mistakes are the shell in which success is encased.
• Treat others fairly, even when they can do nothing to hurt you or to help you.
• Living your values is not always easy when trying to manage a bottom line in a complex business. But living them truthfully makes it a heck of a lot easier to look in the mirror in the morning.
• When life throws you a curve ball, try really hard to catch ‘it, because that’s where the learning begins.
As you move through this week, I hope that you’ll find a moment to think about the legacy that you want to leave behind and consider these important questions:
How does living a purpose-filled life shape the gifts that you’ll leave from which others will benefit? And what have you done with the curve balls life has thrown you? More importantly, what will you do with the next one?
