Bull Run pace slated
Sunday at Locust Hill
Better known, too, as a spring
sport, hunter pacing makes its
autumn debut this Sunday, Sept. 17. The Bull Run Hunt will host a newly designed style of hunter pace event at the Locust Hill preserve near Culpeper.
The course is set at eight-to-nine miles (compared to the two- to threemile courses at spring pace events.) Teams of three (as opposed to two) will take to the course in four divisions: the “hunt” division time will be timed at a hunting pace (mostly trot and canter); the junior division will be timed slightly slower; the pleasure and western divisions slower yet, with the course timer expected to do a bit of walking and trotting along with some short canters. There are jumps dotting the route of varying heights, but all are optional; every competitor in every division may make each and every jump optional.
