North America's only oneturn mile returned to action as Colonial Downs kicked off its ninth annual standardbred meet Sept. 4.
The nine-week stand continues through Nov. 4, aligning perfectly with Virginia’s fall steeplechase schedule. Horse racing fans can attend jump meets each weekend through the Nov. 4 daytime Montpelier ‘chase meet, and get a parimutuel fix each evening at Colonial.
Racing is on a Friday through Tuesday schedule, plus holidays, with a 5 p.m. post time.
The Virginia Harness Day of Champions Nov. 4 highlights the nine-week stand. Champion day features the best Virginia-bred, sired or owned standardbreds competing for purses exceeding $300,000. The Fermer Perry Memorial, an open pace, and the Colonial Downs, an open trot, highlight the schedule.
