VDGIF plan is to reduce deerhuman conflicts. Specifically, the goal is to have 1,000 or fewer out-of-season kill permits. When this is achieved, it means that deer are becoming less of a nuisance to the public, and consequently their numbers are starting to approach the CCC.
Another initiative is to develop and implement a program to manage deer-vehicle collisions with the help of the Virginia Department of Transportation. In 2004 there were 5,105 deer-vehicle incidents in Virginia (This does not account for those incidents that caused less than $1,000 of damage.), and the VDGIF hopes to get those numbers
