The main theme, however, as well as the base from which all other platforms and political aspirations spring, is transportation - and more specifically, the construction of rail, she said.
For instance, more rail brings less traffic on the roads. Less traffic brings less pollution. And thus more rail translates into a cleaner environment, she explained. Moreover, rail construction would even impact the Iraq war effort, she said.
“The administration maintains we went into Iraq because of terrorist attacks,” she said, “but without a doubt, we don’t go into any country unless we have an interest there. We would not be in Iraq today without our dependence on foreign oil.”
With more rail, comes more choice - and Americans would gladly decrease their personal vehicle travel and accompanying gas usage if trains of the same high-speed type offered overseas were available and convenient.
Specifically, Parker’s rail plan begins in Virginia and branches nationwide, with states and communities ultimately constructing “local feeders,” or train systems, into the main tracks.
