It all begins with a map - map to the treasures of Rappahannock.
On this particular weekend of November 4 and 5, those treasures are the creative artists who live and work in the picturesque countryside surrounding the historic villages of our county, and who display their art in the galleries in the villages.
You can pick up the map that weekend at the Fire Hall in Washington. There, you will find examples of the work of each of the participating artists and photographers who will open their private studios to the visiting public as well as displays of artwork and photos from each of the 10 galleries participating in the second annual Artists of Rappahannock Studio & Gallery Tbur. It will be hard to decide just where to go first - but then, that’s the fun of finding treasures.
This year’s Artists of Rappahannock tour is bigger and more exciting than ever, with more artists participating and wider community involvement. Last year, well over 1,000 people attended the two-day event. This year, even more local residents and visitors are anticipated.
“Thanks to the roaring success of our first Artists of Rappahannock Studio & Gallery Tbur, we are preparing for crowds to return and for many new folks to come on the tour,” said Claudia Mitchell, president of the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community. RAAC will once again sponsor the tour as part of its mission to enrich the fives of Rappahannock County residents and its visitors through exposure to the arts, and to promote a sense of community in the county through many kinds of events, such as the tour.
