Chaos did not ensue when the three piglets, each weighing about 55 pounds, trampled over the short, plastic fence at Mountain Laurel Montessori Farm School.
About a dozen of the school’s students, ranging in age from 12 to 15 years, ran after them, held hands and corralled the curly tailed trio back into their pen.
The students did not wait for instructions. Rather, the students yelled instructions to the teachers.
“(Dlrop the fence and turn it off,” one shouted.
Another ran to get a bucket of feed to lure the pigs along.
David Salgado, one of three full-time teachers at the school, watched and lent a hand when the kids needed it.
“This is part of the process of learning,” he said.
The first lesson of the day: make sure you give a solarpowered electric fence enough time to charge before expecting it to contain three frantic piglets.
No doubt, the students took that lesson to heart.
