calls illegal immigration an “invisible tax.” Businesses who use undocumented workers should be punished and illegal immigrants should not receive in-state tuition to the commonwealth’s colleges, he said.
“It is a huge problem that imposes a huge burden on localities,” he said, adding that an estimated 800,000 illegal immigrants live in Virginia. “We have an obligation in Virginia to do something about it if the federal government is not going to do its job and close the borders.”
Last but not least, he wants to hold down the tax burden on Virginians. The commonwealth has forecast a $640 billion budget shortfall for the next year, but Obenshain says he is “committed to living within our means.”
