Humans take note: you can be helping RAWL take care of the animals that need help by hitting up your neighbors to help the League pay for its care and treatment programs.
There is a Strutt champion at large in the community: for two of the first three years of the Strutt, Lisa Welsted of Flint Hill - a well-known figure in the Rappahannock Court Clerk’s office - has been the leading human among fund-raisers for the Strutt. Each year, as the summer moves along and the date of the Strutt approaches, Lisa can be heard approaching fellow citizens, one at a time, saying, “hey, you’ve got a dollar in your pocket, dontcha?”
According to Lisa, most people at that point reach for a pocket or a purse and fetch up some green, even before hearing that the money will help keep a dog or a cat healthy and alive. Says Lisa, “I ask for a dollar, but most often people hand me a twenty or a ten or a five.”
