For all seeds, make sure that they are completely dry before packaging them or they will mold and be unusable.
I normally keep mine out for about a week just to be sure. There’s nothing worse than going through all this just to throw them away.
Once the seeds are dry, you can pack them into envelopes, zipper storage bags or glass jars. If you use envelopes, put the envelopes in an airtight container.
Be sure to label each envelope, bag or jar with the type of seed it contains and the date it was packaged — again, unless you are the daring, experimental type. Mystery gardens can he fun, but difficult.
Saved seeds are best when used the following spring, but some can keep for a few years. The more experience you have saving seeds, the easier it will be to determine which ones are worthwhile.
It is gratifying to see the fruits (and vegetables) of your labor growing strong and tasty in your garden each year, but there’s nothing better than knowing you were responsible for the entire process.
Seed saving is the ultimate in recycling.
