not fit in with the architecture of surrounding buildings. The couple took issue with the restrictions of the historic district ordinances and asked the court to declare them “invalid and unenforceable and void.” The town settled the suit in September 2004 and agreed to pay $75,000 to the couple.
The revised historic district ordinances are still in draft form and a few steps away from becoming law.
After the joint public hearing on Nov. 14, the town planning commission will make a recommendation to the town council about what revisions to the Historic District Ordinances the council should adopt. The council will then have an opportunity to vote on the changes.
The council is also working on new historic district guidelines, which provide suggestions for rulings based on the historic district ordinances. Town Clerk Laura Dodd said that the guidelines are farther from completion than the historic district ordinances.
