School opened at its new location outside Flint Hill this year. The farm school is in its fourth year, moving from the Belle Meade farm and school house south of Sperryville.
Following the Montessori method of teaching, the farm school favors a hands-on, problem-solving approach, striving to engage the students in their education. The school’s working farm provides ample opportunities for such an experience.
“It’s not about training farmers,” Mountain Laurel’s administrator Elaine Glier said. “It’s about using the farm as a model for the bigger world.”
