hybrid plants may not produce productive seeds.
Hybrid produce is the product of two or more different parent plants. When the hybrid’s seeds are planted, you could come out with a vegetable more like one or the other of its parents, or with nothing at all. Apparently, this is the one case where inbreeding is a good thing.
Hie problem is that most catalog seeds available today are hybrids. You'll have better hick with seeds from heirloom vegetables and fruits, unless you’re enthralled by the unknown. This could be a good science experiment.
Trial and error is pretty much how I go about things. It takes me longer to learn what works and what doesn’t than the normal human, but the things I learn do tend to stick with me. So believe me when I say that only some seeds can simply be laid out to dry and then successfully planted the following spring.
I am always an advocate of whatever is easy, and I love it when I find seeds that only need to be put out on paper towels for a week, then put away until spring.
