Four bands are on tap for the Power Line Awareness Festival, which begins at 2 p.m. Saturday in Huntly.
For the most part, the bands are planning to play their music and let the other activists at the festival provide the information about Dominion Virginia Power's proposal to build another 500,000-volt electric corridor through Rappahannock. But some of the musicians are preparing to use their stage time to protest the utility's plan.
Mechanism, a five-piece rock band comprised of members from Culpeper and Rappahannock counties, is adjusting one of their songs to let eveiyone know what the band thinks of another set of power lines going up in the Piedmont.
The band will change its song titled “Move the People Off the Mountain” to “Move Dominion Off the Mountain” on Saturday at the festival. The original song is about the National Park Service evicting people from the land that is now Shenandoah National Park.
“With half of us being from Rappahannock County, this is relevant to us,” said Mechanism drummer and Woodville resident Bob Salo. “As soon as I found out about [the festival], I was like, 1 have to be a part of this.’“
