The Town of Washington may soon gain access to a staff of professional planners who assist with grant writing, tourism promotion and land-use planning.
At its meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 17, the Washington Town Council voted to seek membership for the Town of Washington with the Rappahannock- Rapidan Regional Commission (R-RRC).
The commission, one of 21 similar regional associations in Virginia, provides an array of services to member counties and towns.
Jeffrey Walker, executive director for R-RRC, presented an overview of the commission to the town council at its October meeting and then fielded detaillevel questions from council members.
Walker said the commission typically assists members with transportation, environmental and community planning, relying on an in-house staff of seven.
The commission also helps link up member counties to facilitate information sharing, he said. Rappahannock County government has already benefited from such cross-pollination of ideas. The county’s abandoned
