In the tag sales gallery, there will be outstanding examples of local art for sale, including oil paintings by Susan McCarthy, Martin Woodward, and June Jordan; a pen & ink by Robin Purnell, custom watercolor by Tanya Ritchie, pastel by Margaret Novak, pottery by Jeanne Drevas, and photography by Chris Johns. There also will be an incredible assortment of oriental rugs of all sizes antique and new, including a Persian Gabbeth donated by R. H. Ballard. In addition, there will be a shop with donated antiques and collectibles such as furniture, glassware, silver-plate, and crystal.

In addition to these offerings from local supporters, there is a large collection of antiques—including a George III chest and an early I9th century Empire highboy, several drop leaf tables, dressers, rockers, blanket chests, wicker, sideboards, writing table, occasional tables, candle stands; and large assortment of primitives, including wash stands, side tables, farm table, wooden boxes and chests, bookshelves, mirrors. Attendees will also find a collection of garden and porch furniture and half a dozen quality quilts. No taste will be overlooked.

Credit where credit is due

The “Friends of CCLC” is the group of volunteers who has worked the year-round antiquing, refurbishing, soliciting donations, scrubbing and polishing, cooking and cleaning. Their goal is to raise $65,000 for CCLC’s work this year.

The “Friends” committee is chaired this year by Debbie Donehey. Beverly Sullivan and Clare Turner cochair the Silent Auction Room with Kaye Miller in charge of the Tag Sale Room. Amy Burnett creates all of the publicity pieces such as brochures, flyers, and the programs for the auction. Kaye Miller and Susan McCarthy organize the live auction items and display, and Colonel Doc Mitchell will be the auctioneer again this year. Louise Van Dort is in charge of the recording and cashiering, and John Fox Sullivan will be the Master of Ceremonies for the evening and lead the bidding.

Included in the $25 admission price are beverages and hors d’oeuvres catered by Mary Arthur and her Rappahannock County High School Culinary Arts students. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the Tag Sale Room and the Silent Auction Room. Live bidding begins at 7 p.m.
