4H Junior Garden Club
seeks new members
The Rappahannock 4H Junior Garden Club sponsored by the Rappahannock County Garden Club under the auspices of the 4H program is seeking new members, ages 9 to 13 years. Meetings are held after school, on the 4th Tuesday of every month in the Extension office on Gay Street in Washington. The Junior Garden Club is involved in many fun activities. Throughout the year, programs are provided that focus on floral design, seasonal arrangements, crafts, and trips to local nurseries and farm programs. The members take home charming designs that can be used to brighten their own homes or serve as lovely gifts for someone special. Civic projects help to teach gardening skills and promote community awareness. Projects include gardens at the Rappahannock Elementary School and assisting with the flower boxes at the County Court House. For more information, contact Sally Havstad at 987-9342. Oct 18: RAWL Spay and
Neuter Registration
The Rappahannock Animal Welfare League (RAWL), in collaboration with the Shenandoah Valley Spay and Neuter Clinic, has opened registration for the third of its regular monthly trips to Harrisonburg. Under this new program, costs of “fixing” pets are reduced dramatically: male cats $45, , females $50, male dogs $55, female dogs $65. (Small additional charges may apply, depending on the animaTs vaccination history.) Owners register and pay in person in advance at the RAWL shelter in Amissville. First come, first served. Act now: the vehicle carrying cats and dogs is not a moving van. The next van trip will be Wednesday, Oct 31. Please take note: registration for this trip will dose on Monday, Oct 29. For further information, call the shelter at 540-937-3283 any time between 8 a.m. and 1 p. m. seven days a week.
