Rappahannock County High School competition results:
• The Panthers band earned second place in the James Wood Invitational on Oct. 13.
•The varsity football team was defeated by Clarke County on Oct. 15. The Panthers rallied in the fourth quarter, scoring two touchdowns and bringing the final score to 26-14.
•The varsity volleyball team traveled to Strasburg on Oct. 15 to take on the Strasburg High School Rams in a battle of teams with undefeated records in the Bull Run District. The Panthers jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the games, but fell to Strasburg 3-2 in five games. Student recognition
Rappahannock County Public Schools will recognize students for academic achievements. At future school board meetings, recognition will be given to:
•Rappahannock County High School (RCHS) students achieving perfect Standards of Learning (SOL) scores in 200607.
•RCHS students that the Advanced Placement (AP) program identifies as “AP Scholars,” “Scholars with Honors” and “Scholars with Distinction.”
•RCHS students that the Cambridge International program identifies as “A” or “A-Star.”
•Rappahannock County Elementary School (RCES)and RCHS students who have made significant improvement in some aspect. A team of teachers and administrators is working to define “significant improvement.”
Golf Tournament
The Rappahannock County School Sports Association (RCSSA) Panther Classic Golf Tournament will be " held Saturday, Oct. 20, at 9 a.m. at Bowling Green Country Club (North Course) in Front Royal, Va. RCSSA supports the 28 athletic teams for grades 6-12 in Rappahannock public schools. It is the sole authorized representative to solicit funds for the RCHS athletic department.
Tournament format is fourperson scramble, captain’s choice. Hole-in-one prizes include:
•$1,000,000 paid out as a 40-year annuity. Only amateurs as classified by the United States Golf Association are eligible to win.
•A Ford Focus courtesy of Rappahannock National Bank and Shenandoah Ford.
•Trips and more.
Door prizes include dinner for two at The Inn at Little Washington. Lunch will be provided by Burgers ‘N’ Things after the tournament.
All tournament proceeds benefit RCSSA.
