backyard and doing so can be a great family activity. The first step is planning: Where will the hedgerow be located, what planting method will be employed and which plants will it contain?
According to David Dadurka, media contact for The Nature Conservancy in Virginia, “the importance of planting native species what choosing shrubs” for hedgerows can't be stressed enough.
“Millions of dollars are spent each year to control invasive alien, species,* says Kim Strader, curatorial assistant from the State Arboretum of Virginia. “Alien invasive species are plants from other countries that out-compete and crowd opt our native species.”
Creating a hedgerow can entail as much or as little planning and planting as you wish. There are three basic methods; the first is the simplest and the most haphazard.
Hedgerows can be created the old-fashioned way, by encouraging the turds to duf it for you. Lewis recommends selecting an area for your hedgerow and tilling the soil there in early fall. Then “string a bird perch of twine or wire on posts 15 feet apart.”
