On the issue of allowing pari-mutuel betting in Virginia, opponents edged out supporters by a nose. Forty-five per cent of those asked said they would vote yes for parimutuel betting while 46.7 per cent said they would lote no. Again only a small percentage—8.3—was undecided.
Rappahannock voters favored adoption of a constitutional amendment to allow localities the option of taxing renovated properties at a lower rate by an overwhelming majority. Seventy per cent of those polled said they supported adoption of the amendment with 8.3 per cent opposed and 21.7 per cent undecided.
The poll was conducted by government students from Rappahannock County High School on behalf of the Rappahannock News. Names were selected at random from the telephone directory and those surveyed were asked how they would vote if the election was held on that day. Sixty people, comprising a sampling of more than one per cent of the county's population, were polled.
