Kecently, several members of the Rappahannock School Board have expressed interest in alternatives to the set increment pay scale now used to determine teacher salaries.
Under the current system, county teachers are awarded a pre determined raise for each year spent in Rappahannock schools up to a maximum of $12,500 for 14 years experience and $13,400 for 14 years with a master’s degree.
Mary McCloud Hyman of Washington, Va. died Tuesday evening in a traffic collision on the west end of the Washington by-pass. This is the second fatality in Rappahannock in less than two weeks. Mrs. McGoud was a passenger in a car driven by Mrs. Mozelle Carver, also of Washington.
The second vehicle, a Mercury Monarch, was ODerated by Mrs. Elizabeth Streagle of Amissville.
According to officers, Mrs. Carver traveling east, made a left turn in a cross-over on the dual lane highway and was struck broadside by the Streagle vehicle which was going west.
Mrs. Carver is a patient in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal with a crushed ankle bone, broken ribs and head lacerations. Mrs. Streagle has a head laceration, knee laceration and is in the Fauquier Hospital, Warrenton. Shannon Streagle, riding with her mother, sustained a sprained elbow and knee while Marc Streagle escaped injury.
Mrs. McCloud, who was dead at the scene, has been making her home with Mrs. Carver, for the past several months after moving here from South Carolina.
