Scouts Try
For “Wide
Opportunity”
Three of Rappahannock’s Cadette Girl Scouts—Lynn Jones of Sperryville, Shannon Streagle of Amissville and Wendy Helmer are hoping to be picked to go abroad this summer as participants in an international “Wider Opportunity” program. The first step in the rigorous selection process will be a trip to Salem, Virginia, on Saturday, November 4, for interviews.
Not wanting to pin all their hopes on one chance, two of the girls have also applied for “Wider Opportunity” experiences in the United States and Canada. Wendy, Shannon and Lynn were I selected last summer as local I participants for a scouting trip to Wyoming. They are available to civic groups to tell about their adventure.
Two other Cadette Girl Scouts. Molly , McCoy and Debbie Helmer, have applied to go on a sailing, canoeing and scuba diving “Wider Experience” outing to the Finger Lakes region of New York State.
