Rated “Good”
The Virginia Taxpayers Association has released ratings on congressional candidates, ranking tfiem “good,” "fair” and “poor” on the basis of what the VTA preceives as the taxpayers’ standpoint.
Seventh District incumbent J. Kenneth Robinson running for his fifth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, received the only “good” rating handed out in the state.
The VTA based its ratings on answers to questions on tax related issues rather than on actual voting records. No candidate who failed to complete and return a questionnaire was rated higher than “fair.”
Among the questionnaire items favored by the VTA are: the Taxpayers' Bill of Rights Act; bills banning taxpaid food stamps for strikers; repeal of the Occupational Safety and Health Act; rescinding increases in the minimum wage which have not yet taken effect and phasing out minimum wage legislation by not enacting new minimums; abolition of the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration; sharp reduction in and future elimination of federal appropriations for education; elimination of appropriations for regional government.
